10 TIMES ECEA CHAMP – JACK
LAFFERTY JR!
It’s
official – Jack Jr. has clinched the ECEA championship for the tenth time! This
has got to be one of the most feats in the entire Enduro riding
world! Something of this magnitude has never happened in our sport before –
anywhere in the country. We are truly lucky to be involved in the sport
when this milestone has been reached! Think about it – 10 times, wow – that’s a
lot of years. And this hasn’t happened in back-to-back years, Jack spread it out
over his career, just to let a few others enjoy the fruits of victory! As we all
know, injury’s throughout the years, family, money, motivation - they are all
factors that could shorten our “racing” time. But with Jack Jr. he kept them all
“at bay”. At 40 something years old, he almost seems preserved in his
ability to race a motorcycle. He takes good care of himself physically, and
mentally he’s as tough as nails when it comes to riding Enduro (must have
got that from the old man). But damn, isn’t he ever going To
“get old”? Speaking of old, I started racing Enduro BEFORE Jack Jr. entered
the scene. Of course Old Man
Lafferty was already on the scene, winning overalls and pissing people off. In
the early days we used to call him “STONE FACE”, then one day
son Jack Jr. hit the circuit (15 years old?) and the ECEA was never the same. I
think I used to beat him regularly Until he
got his “B” card. At Jack’s peak (even though I think he’s still near it!)
he was a national contender and placed in the top 10 Overall in the country
quite a few times, with very little support! If he had the support at that
time that is offered now, no question about it he would have been a National
Champ like brother Michael! But then again,
if that happened, we may have lost him in the ECEA for a time.
CONGRATULATIONS JACK JR. – AN ICON IN THE
SPORT OF ENDURO RACING
